On September 26th we announced the release of WiMAX tracing support for Wireshark (Press Release). Until the official 0.99.7 release of Wireshark (formerly Ethereal) is available, the Windows build may be downloaded from the following location:

For Linux, the WiMAX tracing feature may be downloaded as a plugin, or designer build as outlined below.

» Linux Plugin

To install the plugin, download the latest version of the following files:

• wimaxasncp-<version>.la
• wimaxasncp-<version>.so

Then place them in your Wireshark plugin directory (e.g. /usr/lib64/wireshark/plugins/0.99.5) being sure to remove any older versions. Then just start Wireshark.

» Linux Designer Build

One drawback of the plugin is that depending on your version of Wireshark, the message summary details may or may not be present. One workaround until the 0.99.7 release is to use the full build included below:

To install the designer build, download it to /opt and type tar -zxvof wireshark-croll.tgz, then cd to the bin directory and type ./wireshark.
